This page sets out what the official site actually says about access, marks what it does not say, and adds what the terrain is like on the ground.
Getting in
- Parking: Blue Badge holders reserve an accessible space when booking; one free space per pre-booked visitor.
- Carer tickets: free for one carer accompanying a full-price visitor with a disability. Book it as a ticket type and bring supporting documents (PIP letter, DLA proof, Access Card or Disabled Person’s Railcard).
- Assistance dogs: welcome everywhere, including the house, farmyard and playground where other dogs are not.
The house
The house route is long (allow ninety minutes) and mostly on one level per floor, with lifts to some upper rooms; the official access map shows the step-free route. Mobility scooters cannot be used inside; wheelchairs and smaller mobility aids can. Large bags, rucksacks and pushchairs are not allowed in and go into £1-coin lockers at the entrance.

The garden
The 105-acre garden is a hillside. The main routes from the house past the Cascade to the Emperor Fountain and the maze are level or gently sloping on gravel; the Rock Garden, the ravine and the paths up to the Hunting Tower involve steps and gradients. The fountains and Cascade run from 11am to 4.30pm.
The park
The best fully accessible experience of Chatsworth needs no ticket: the surfaced path from Baslow through the north park to the house is flat, 1.5 miles long and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and the estate road from Calton Lees to the house along the river is tarmac. Christmas
From 7 November to 13 December visitors park in the parkland and cross to the house by tractor-and-trailer shuttle, which is wheelchair accessible; the trackway can be muddy. From 14 December the main car park is used again.
Not stated on the official site
Scooter or wheelchair hire, Changing Places facilities, hearing loops in specific rooms and quiet or relaxed opening times were not stated on the official accessibility page when it was checked. Contact the estate directly for any of these.
