Day tickets start from £10 and cover the house, garden, farmyard and adventure playground; the exact price depends on the date and what you include. Guided tours start from £55. Christmas tickets are priced separately (adults £40 (£36.36 without the Gift Aid donation)).

Chatsworth is independent: it is not part of the National Trust or English Heritage, and membership of either gives no discount.

Booking is recommended rather than compulsory in the main season, but the house uses timed entry slots that do sell out on busy days, and booking online is what makes your parking free. Christmas at Chatsworth must be booked in advance.

National Art Pass (Art Fund) holders get 50% off house and garden tickets between mid-March and 31 October; the pass must be shown at entry. A visitor with a disability who pays full price can bring one carer free; select a carer ticket when booking and bring supporting documents (PIP letter, DLA proof, Access Card or Disabled Person’s Railcard). Tickets are sold with an optional Gift Aid donation; the price without it is about 10% lower. There are no published Blue Light, NHS, student or Universal Credit rates on the official site; look for seasonal offers on the official ticket page.

Friends of Chatsworth membership starts from £140 a year and gives unlimited visits in the open season plus free Christmas and Country Fair tickets and discounts in the shops and restaurants.

Yes: the 218 Sheffield–Bakewell stops at the house, the 170 Chesterfield–Bakewell passes through Baslow and the 160 runs from Matlock on weekdays.

There is no electric-vehicle charging on site. The nearest public chargers are in Bakewell, Baslow and Chesterfield.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the garden and the park. Only assistance dogs may enter the house, the farmyard and the adventure playground.

Large bags, rucksacks and pushchairs are not allowed in the house; lockers by the entrance take a £1 coin. Pushchairs are fine in the garden, farmyard and park.

The garden has level and gravel routes and the house has a step-free route on the ground floor with lifts to some upper rooms; Mobility scooters cannot be used inside the house; smaller mobility aids can. Blue Badge holders can reserve an accessible parking space when booking, one free space per pre-booked visitor. The official accessibility page has the access map.

Allow at least an hour and a half for the house route. With the garden, farmyard and a walk in the park most people spend a full day.

Walking, cycling, picnicking and playing are free in the public parkland and Stand Wood, all year.

The Cascade and fountains play from 11am to 4.30pm in the open season, weather permitting.

Picnics, yes, anywhere in the park and in the garden. Barbecues and fires are not allowed anywhere on the estate; gazebos, tents, bicycles, skateboards and scooters are not allowed in the garden.

Swimming, paddle-boarding and any boat on the River Derwent are prohibited across the estate.

Personal photography is welcome. Tripods, lighting, selfie sticks, flash and wearable cameras are not; drones are banned across the estate. Wedding photography is only possible through the estate’s own wedding packages; visitors in wedding dress are not admitted.

The house, garden and farmyard are open late March to early January; the park and Stand Wood are open all year, and the farm shop, garden centre and estate pubs trade year-round. Daily times are on the official calendar.
